Will ‘Iron Man 3’ begin filming in Wilmington earlier than expected?

As we’ve reported, Iron Man 3 was expected to begin filming in Wilmington, NC at the end of May, but now there are reports that the movie may begin filming a month early.

If the reports of a possible April start date are true, it means Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Tony Stark before The Avengers hits theaters on May 4th.

“One source close to the North Carolina operations said that Marvel will have staff in Wilmington as early as mid-March, with shooting scheduled to begin the last week of April or the first week of May.”

As of right now, we haven’t been able to find any casting calls or open crew job posting, but we would expect to see some listings in the next few weeks if the shoot dates has indeed been moved up.

The movie, which will be the largest ever shot in North Carolina, will spend several months filming at EUE/Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington.
