According to the Times of Malta, the Tom Hanks movie Captain Phillips, which will spend a few days filming in Massachusetts in March, may be shot in Malta this May.
According to the Malta Film Commissioner Peter Busuttil, location scouts for the film were recently in Malta to talk to the commission about filming there.
“Malta fits the film location perfectly. But we are still in discussions,” said Mr Busuttil, adding that the production team was also looking at filming in Morocco (which is already listed as a primary filming location by several trade magazines).
Captain Phillips stars Hanks as real life ship captain Richard Phillips who allowed himself to be taken hostage by Somali pirates in exchange for the safety of his crew. Phillips’ memoir which the movie is base on, A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea, recounts his three days in captivity and his dramatic rescue.
