A first trailer for the HBO film Hemingway and Gellhorn is making the rounds on several movie blogs this weekend even though HBO hasn’t posted it on their website or Facebook page yet, so I think calling it “official” might be a stretch.
The film, which was shot in San Francisco last year, follows the tumultuous marriage of Earnest Hemingway (played by Clive Owen) and Martha Gellhorn (played by Nicole Kidman). The couple met in Key West in 1936 and married in 1940 after a whirlwind courtship in Europe while Hemingway wrote For Whom The Bell Tolls. But, their separate correspondent work and strong wills ultimately drove them apart.
Being a big Martha Gellhorn fan, I suddenly knew how Batman fans felt the first time they heard Bane’s voice in The Dark Knight Rises trailer. I admit I was thrown off by Kidman’s interpretation of how Gellhorn should sound, but also realized I don’t really know what Gellhorn should sound like, so maybe the accent is spot on?
There is no exact release date for the movie, but it is expected to air sometime in May.
What do you think of the trailer?
