‘You Are Here’, starring Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis, and Amy Poehler, will begin filming in Winston-Salem, NC in May

A new move from Mad Men creator, Matthew Weiner, is expected to begin filming in Winston-Salem, North Carolina next month.

Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis, and Amy Poehler are set to star in the film which is being called both a romantic comedy and a road trip film.

The movie’s official synopsis says it is about, “two 30’s roommates dodging the responsibilities of adult life.” But, “after one of the men’s father’s dies, it makes his unstable son the new owner of a general store, a country home and Amish farmland.”

Though there hasn’t been any extras casting information announced yet, the production company has set up offices at 537 N Spruce St, Winston Salem, NC 27101 and those interested in crew positions can email youarehereresumes@gmail.com.

“This movie has been my passion for eight years, and to see it come together with Owen and Zach and Amy is a dream come true,” Weiner said in a statement.

Deadline reports the movie may begin filming as soon as May 7.

  1. So i live across from the store that they will be shooting scenes at May 15, 2012, it is raining today though they are surpposed to start set up tonight. Walkertown, Nc 4995 reidsville rd 27051.

Come dine at Diamondback Grill located in Winston-Salem…off Robinhood Road…just minutes from downtown…local restaurant with local and homemade fare…local produce, local farm eggs, lamb, tons of farm to table items…amazing desserts and salads…all the dressings are fresh and homemade. Cocktails are delish plus great wine selections. You have not experienced W-S if you have not been to ‘DB’!!!! Known as the local… Cheers with Great food! Oh- trivia on Tuesdays…got to see it for yourself…they cater too…and deliver…SOOOO good….go to DB… being there is part of the experience.

  6. Forgot to mention….Downtown Diamondback too…they are open for lunch weekdays…the grill is only open for dinner unless catering. check out their Facebook pages…local, but good quality is key.

  8. I live in Walkertown NC and was told that they were filming on or around Darrow Road and trucks are located at the old Walkertown Middle School.

    • Saw a camera elevator rising up at the railroad tracks right at Bolens Heating on Main St. and Sullivantowne Rd

        • I’d say that they didn’t get equiptment setup until this morning.They might be on Atkinson Rd longer than at Fairview, but not 100%sure.

          • they will be at that same location for a month? Wow, is it an Amish looking farm by any chance? The plot revolves around one of them inheriting an Amish farm or something, maybe that’s it…thanks again!

              • Surry County goes alittle overboard blocking roads. Atkinson Road is closed off to everyone except people that live on Atkinson Road, and then you have to show ID proving where you live. Fans will be unable to get a glimpse of the actors while they are at this location. Bummer

  11. I was downtown Winston Salem and watch them filming at the Milliennium Center (Old Post Office) for a Christmas scene. Friend of mine saw Owen but I didn’t
    Crew told me that it would be about a year before the movie will be out

  12. They’ll be filming at WTVI in Charlotte for a month this summer, including blocked out filming dates beginning May 31st. Weiner has been in WTVI several times, and PAs have been around the studio for the past two months measuring offices, taking lighting samples, etc.

  13. A friend of mine was eating at Mozelle’s yesterday in Winston-Salem and Owen Wilson was in the restaurant. She snapped a photo of him walking out! I’ll be downtown Monday so I’ll be on the look out!

  15. Hey, they are setting up in Siloam, NC at my families farm house!! they moved all the furniture out and brought in theirs and have built alot for the set (fences, buildings, etc.)

  16. I was travelling on 158 West (also known as Reidsville Rd.) near Walkertown, NC on June 14 about 5:30p.m. and saw some of the film crew setting up. The catering trucks and trailers were parked in a vacant lot that has a sign in it that says “Lou’s Restaurant”. It is at the intersection of Kernersville/Piney Grove Rd. and Reidsville Rd./Hwy 158. Further down the road, just past Rail Fence Rd. I saw them putting up a road sign for buggy crossing. It was across from a farm that has a very long white fence. I saw them setting up a camera nearby. I saw a burgundy/red convertible sitting at Brad’s Golf Cars which is located at 5515 Reidsville Rd in Belews Creek, NC. I believe that Zach was in the passenger side but I’m unsure who was driving.

  18. Set designs going up right now in Madison beside Scotton shoe shop! Using the old grocery building as a grocery building…. How exciting for our small town!

  20. Just drove by in Madison and got out of car to talk to one of the gals working on the store. Asked if they were still a go for filming Tues, Wed, and Thurs.of next week. She said, yes. Anybody know if they were still looking for extras? Info please. Thanks!

  21. They are going to be filming in my hometown in Madison, NC. At the Baker Country Market and the Penn Hardware store. I sent an email about being a extra just today. They are filming the 20, 21, and 22 of June.

  22. Filming today at the W-S visitor center on Brookstown Ave. Walked up there this morning to see what was going on (wasn’t sure about the film) and met Owen Wilson on the sidewalk. I said “hi Owen” and stuck out my hand to shake and he gave me a fist-bump and said “what’s up man?”. He seemed very nice, but I could see how he could be rude like previous comments. I saw Amy across the street and she then jumped in a van and left.

  25. FYI…that “Old Country Store” was created by the crew. It was an old building not in use for many years. My husband who was born and raised here said it looked just like that (inside) when he was a kid so I guess they did a pretty good job! Saw Owen & Zach this afternoon!!!

  29. Just heard on Monday they’ve started filming in Yadkin County (Forbush) on Dinkins Bottom road off of 421 for 2 weeks and allowing only 1 day of filming. Would love to know just when they’ll be there! Even if no meets, just excited to have some excitement in Yadkin!

We were on Market Street in Madison today and saw Amy Poehler doing a scene at the Old Baker Store, the streets are blocked off, but you can walk almost pretty much up to the set, you have to stand across either side of the street on the corners though and you can not CAN NOT take any pictures, they will make you leave… But Security today was pretty laid back I guess because it was 2000 degrees outside, but they will let you get as close as possible without getting in the actual shooting area! Does anyone know where they are going after they leave Madison?

  31. They’re in Boonville, NC today! I don’t know exactly what they’re doing, but a few roads and a lot of stores are being used. Pretty cool for a small town of about 1,200 lol.

  32. Met Owen Wed. on set in Madison, N C. Got autograph in book Marley and Me for my grand daughter “Lauren”.
    Very nice guy. Seems to be very sensitivie and caring. Talked to him again as Lauren and I was leaving the set. Remembered us. My father worked at the Wholesale house prior to leaving for the War, in which he was killed. I also had a great uncle who was the Bookkeeper for Jake and Pete Moore.

  33. They were filming today at my mother-in-law’s apartment complex off Robinhood Rd. in Winston. My daughter brought an old globe and we drew a big arrow at NC and wrote “You Are Here”. She got several crew member autographs along with Owen Wilson’s and Peter Bogdanovich. She just waltzed right up to them both. Very cool for them to take a bit of.time to make a little girl very happy.

  35. My mom Ann Carter met Owen Wilson and said Hi. I didn’t talk to any stars but seen Owen, Amy, Melissa, and Zach a lot because I was an extra in the movie in Madison. Had a great time and want to do it again soon! They are filming in Booneville, NC a hour and a half away from Madison for one night at a grocery store.

  36. They asked in March for people to sign up for people who could pass off as Amish. They are supposed to be filming in Forsyth for that scene. I don’t know when though
