A Catskills condominium complex, which was once Brown’s Hotel, was nearly completely destroyed in a fire earlier this week.
Seven of the nine buildings on the property were consumed by fire. Lucky no one was injured in the blaze, but many were left homeless.
Brown’s Hotel was the inspiration for the affluent resort Kellerman’s in Dirty Dancing. The movie’s screenwriter, Eleanor Bergstein, based the movie on her summers competing in dance competitions at Brown’s.
Though the movie was based on Brown’s Hotel, it was filmed at the Mountain Lake Resort near Roanoke, Virginia. For those who can’t get enough of Baby and her corner, the resort often hosts Dirty Dancing weekends, including tours of the movie’s filming locations around the property.
