Since I wasn’t able to make it to the Tribeca Film Festival this year I’ve been taking advantage of the fest’s On Demand movies which are official selections available throughout the festival’s run – April 18–29.
Last night I checked out The Giant Mechanical Man for $5.99 via Amazon, a steal when you consider rush tickets to most of the fest’s screenings in NYC start at $8.
The movie stars Chris Messina as a street performer who splits with his girlfriend over his lack of real employment and Jenna Fischer as a 30-soething woman who gets fired from her temp job and has to move in with her sister. Out of desperation they both take jobs at a local zoo where they quickly realize they’re kindred spirits.
The movie was shot at various locations in Detroit, MI in December of 2010, including the Detroit Zoo, which plays their fictional workplace – The Fillmore Zoo.
Many of the Detroit Zoo’s exhibits, including the Arctic Ring of Life, the Penguinarium, and the African Forest, are predominately featured throughout the film. And, just as it is in the movie, the zoo is open year round.
Adult tickets to the Detroit Zoo are $14, kids tickets cost $9. For more information, visit https://www.detroitzoo.org/.
