While some are speculating whether or not Hollywood should, or will, boycott filming in North Carolina after the state passed a ban on gay marriage, so far, the state’s film industry is still booming.
According to WECT another big budget project is headed to the state. Safe Haven, based on Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name, is expected to begin filming in Southport, NC later this month.
Though there are few details about the shoot, locals are reporting the production company has opened an office in town and has approached some Southport businesses about their “vision for the film.”
Apparently they are especially interested in the town’s Fourth of July Parade and want to use some of the town’s floats in the film. They are even holding a contest and the best five floats will have an extra part in movie, while the best float gets $1,000 dollars to be used towards a charity of the winner’s choice.
Safe Haven follows a young woman who moves to a small North Carolina town, while trying to escape her past, where she falls for a loving widowed father.
Josh Duhamel and Keira Knightley are set to star.
