According to Online Athens, director James Ponsoldt, who grew up in the Athens, GA area, is back in town scouting locations for The Spectacular Now which will begin filming next month.
The movie is a coming-of-age story based on the YA novel of the same name by Tim Tharp.
According to Ponsoldt, the book takes place in Oklahoma, but when he read the script it reminded him of his hometown, so when he signed onto to direct the project he pushed producers to set (and film) the movie in Athens.
Miles Teller, Brie Larson, and Shailene Woodley are set to star in The Spectacular Now.
Filming will take place between July 23 and August 25 in various locations throughout Athens.
