Since 1982, Outfest has showcased lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender artistry from a cinematic perspective. The simple act of promoting and projecting films on the big screen has helped nurture and protect the LGBT community in Los Angeles and around the world. This year’s festival will celebrate the nonprofit’s 30th year of challenges and triumphs, while also propelling them forward for generations to come.
The 11 day festival begins July 12th with the Opening Night Gala. From there the next 10 days are dedicated to screening the 143 selected films submitted from over 20 countries.
Filmmaker John Waters will be awarded with the Annual Outfest Achievement Award for 2012. As noted on the Outfest site, “Waters and his work have been unapologetically queer, championing outsider values and personal expression in a world that rarely appreciates difference.” Be sure to read more about Waters and the rest of this year’s talent behind the camera on the site. You will also find this year’s program guide here (https://www.outfest.org/fest2012/filmguide.html). You don’t want to miss out on this summer event!
