‘RoboCop’ will be shot in Detroit while ‘Last Vegas’ opts out

It’s official, the RoboCop reboot will spend some time in Detroit where it is set.

The movie is currently filming in and around Toronto, ON, where local streets have been filling in for Detroit, leaving some to speculate the movie wouldn’t be shot in Michigan at all.

But, this week MGM confirmed RoboCop will be shooting some exteriors in the Motor City before they wrap. It’s rumored the city’s famous Packard Plant will be one of the locations used during the Detroit shoot.

There is no word how long they will film in Detroit or who will be there (we’ve heard rumors they will only be filming second unit stuff since the bulk of filming is being done now in Ontario) but the fact that they are filming in Michigan at all is a good sign for the state which has lost several major productions in recent months, including Last Vegas.

It was also announced this week that Last Vegas, starring Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro and Morgan Freeman, has withdrawn its application for $4.6 million in Michigan film incentives. Producers have instead decided to shoot entirely in Atlanta and Las Vegas this fall.
