Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival underway in Florida

The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival kicked off last weekend with the the Filmmaker’s Soirée, and will continue through November 11th with a line-up including “A Late Quartet,” “Silver Linings Playbook,” and “Deadfall”.

GREATER FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Oct. 16, 2012 – With a line-up of 200 films, some of the industry’s top names – including Academy Award winning director Stefan Ruzowitzky and actors Dabney Coleman and Garret Dillahunt – are expected to attend the 2012 Florida International Film Festival and the annual Filmmaker’s Soirée, hosted by the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Office of Film & Entertainment and W Fort Lauderdale at the hotel.

The Filmmaker’s Soirée, to be held on Oct. 21 by invitation only, has become a key event at film festivals across the country, travelling nationally from The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival to the Tribeca and Toronto film festivals, and coming soon to Sundance. It has attracted actors and filmmaker’s such as Dennis Haysbert, Beau Bridges, Edward Burns, Giancarlo Esposito, Bobby Cannavale, Josh Hamilton, Jayce Bartok and Barbie Castro among many others.

“The Filmmaker’s Soirée is an opportunity to celebrate films alongside the filmmakers and talent, as well as hear about Greater Fort Lauderdale’s incentives and State’s tax credit,” said Noelle Stevenson, Film Commissioner, Broward Office of Film & Entertainment.

The Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Office of Film & Entertainment has increased Greater Fort Lauderdale’s appeal as a film, TV and commercial film destination with back to back years of major film and television production, including the currently filming “Iron Man 3,” starring Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow, and last summer’s “Rock of Ages” with Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin.

“The International Film Festival is one of the highlights of Greater Fort Lauderdale’s calendar and this year’s event promises to be even bigger and better,” said Nicki E. Grossman, president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. “And it’s fitting that W Fort Lauderdale has made this year’s Soiree an official W Happening, since this oceanfront urban resort is one of our county’s most popular film production location options.”

The line-up for the 2012 Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, Oct. 19 – Nov. 11, is one of the strongest in its 27-year history, with 14 world premieres and six U.S. premieres. Some of the top films to be shown include “The Sapphires,” “Quartet,” “A Late Quartet,” “Silver Linings Playbook,” “Deadfall” and “The Sessions.”
