GREATER FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nov. 13, 2012 – Greater Fort Lauderdale has become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after stars with a leading role in the new law enforcement series “Graceland.”
Filming of “Graceland” commenced in the past week with locations around Greater Fort Lauderdale doubling as beach communities in Southern California, where the characters and events of “Graceland” take place. Launching in summer 2013, the drama series features actors Aaron Tveit (“Les Miserables”) and Daniel Sunjata (“Rescue Me”).
The series is based on the true story of law-enforcement agents from the DEA, FBI and Customs whose worlds collide when they’re forced to live together in an undercover beachfront mansion called Graceland, named after the drug lord and obsessed Elvis Presley fan from whom the house was seized.
“If the Oscars gave awards for locations, Greater Fort Lauderdale would be a clear favorite to win since we can literally transform our location into any part of the world,” said Noelle Stevenson, Film Commissioner, Broward Office of Film & Entertainment. “It is this great variety that continues to grow the destination’s appeal as a major location for film, television and commercials.”
By choosing Greater Fort Lauderdale as the location for “Graceland,” Fox Television Studios is among the growing number of production companies taking advantage of the area’s diverse locations and money-saving incentives, including no permit fees, film-friendly hotels and communities, professional studio and production offices, and the Preferred Production Pass (P3) which offers special values at area attractions, restaurants and film and entertainment vendors.
The first season first season of “Graceland” is slated to film 11 episodes in Greater Fort Lauderdale locations, including its famous beaches.
It comes after the highly-anticipated blockbuster “Iron Man 3,” with Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow; last summer’s hit “Rock of Ages” with Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin; and the on-going success of A&E’s TV Drama “The Glades,” all filmed in Greater Fort Lauderdale.
