‘Parks and Recreation’ filming in Indianapolis today, with Newt Gingrich?

Thanks to a number of tipsters in the Indianapolis area today we found out that the NBC comedy, Parks and Recreation, which is primarily shot in Los Angeles, was filming on location in Indy today.

This afternoon series’ star Adam Scott was spotted posing with fans outside St. Elmo’s Steakhouse in downtown Indianapolis. This evening they were spotted shooting scenes at Lucas Oil Stadium with Indiana Pacers Roy Hibbert and Miles Plumlee.

But, the most surprising guest star (even to the cast and crew) turned out to be Newt Gingrich who was reportedly in town for a meeting with Governor Mitch Daniels. When Gingrich showed up at St. Elmo’s for lunch while the show was filming, the writers took advantage of the situation and wrote him into the scene!

According to The Atlantic Wire, the show, set in the fictional Pawnee, Indiana, made the trip to Indianapolis to shoot the bachelor party of Adam Scott’s character Ben Wyatt, who is set to marry Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler, this season.
