Yesterday, the 2009 Academy Award Nominations were announced in L.A. Most of this year’s leading films have fascinating locales making them great fodder for travel inspiration.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button leads this year’s nominations with 13 Oscar nods including Brad Pitt for Actor in a Leading Road and Best Picture. Filmed almost entirely on location in New Orleans, Pitt has called the movie a “love letter” to New Orleans.
Frozen River
The movie got little attention when it was released last year but the Academy took notice. Frozen River was filmed in Upstate New York, in the Plattsburgh area along the border between New York and Canada. The movie was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best Actress in a Leading Role, Melissa Leo.
Slumdog Millionaire
Slumdog Millionaire, the darling of this year’s Golden Globes, has been nominated for 10 Oscars including Best Picture. The movie was criticized for showing Mumbai in a less than flattering light but the producers have defended the decision. They began shooting in Mumbai’s megaslum and in shantytown parts of Juhu during the fall of 2007.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Woody Allen’s latest film was only nominated for one Oscar, Actress in a Supporting Role, Penelope Cruz. The movie, filmed in Barcelona, is the definition of travel inspiring, creating a perfect escape anyone would want to recreate. Gormound Banks offers a 5 day Vicky Cristina Barcelona Tour for those who just have to see it for themselves.
In Bruges
In Bruges was filmed entirely on location in, where else, Bruges. The movie’s location has been the talk of the travel industry since its release last year because Belgium rarely gets the attention it deserves from the movie biz. In Bruges was nominated for Best Original Screenplay.
