Season 4 of the immensely popular series Game of Thrones has just officially started production in Northern Ireland. Units will also be filming in Iceland and Croatia later this month.
Filming in Croatia will take place in Dubrovnik, a location that the show has used since season 2 for the city of King’s Landing. They are slated to film from August 20th to September 20th, and then move to Split, a new location, on September 21st to October 10th. It is believed that the Diocletian Palace’s basement in the city centre will be used for a few days, then move to the village of Kils where a mountain fortress is located, as well as a nearby island.
Season 4 picks off on the second half of George R. R. Martin’s third novel A Storm of Swords in the A Song of Ice and Fire saga and will continue from the shocking last few episodes of Season 3.
Actor Pedro Pascal has just joined the show to play the role of The Red Viper (Oberyn Martell), but there is still ongoing casting looking to fill other major roles.
Some of the show’s main stars will also be at San Diego Comic-Con with author George R. R. Martin and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss later this month.
