As we reported earlier in the week rumors have been swirling that the upcoming Untitled Man of Steel Sequel, also known as Superman Vs. Batman, will film in Detroit, and now the Michigan is confirming the news.
This morning it was announced that the movie has been approved for $35 million in state film incentives and should begin filming early next year.
According to one of our sources, the movie will also shoot on a soundstage in Toronto but “90% of the exterior [shots] will be filmed in Detroit.”
And, just in case you’ve been trapped on a deserted island with no communication to the outside world, here’s the latest news on the project. Ben Affleck has singed on to play Batman (which caused a collective cry of horror from fans around the world), Bryan Cranston may or may not be playing Lex Luthor, Christopher Nolan may or may not have dropped out of the movie due to the Affleck casting, and there is already a trailer for the flick, well done internet!
What this means is approximately 10 months-12 months of shooting in Canada. Then, an incredibly sensationalized publicity extravaganza will be built around 10-15 days of 2nd Unit here in the US, so the former 99%-ers don’t pitch tents in front of the theaters and tank the movie. This is a clever strategy that has been employed since the economy tanked in 2009, and it’s been extraordinarily successful! The 2 hedge funders (who are 100% tax exempt) that pay for Warner’s movies don’t care about comic book fans, our economy, our creative culture, or the creative jobs they’ve ruthlessly eliminated here in the US. Warner hasn’t made a big budget movie in the US since The Dark Knight, in 2009. And, I don’t understand how the fans haven’t noticed! The “American” heros are fictional on screen, so are the ones behind it!!!
