Over the past week or so we have been urging all of you to sign the petition to Governor Paterson asking him to replenish New York state’s film/TV production tax incentive program, which just recently ran out of funds. There has been speculation that many of the TV shows currently filming in NYC will relocate leaving a huge financial burden on a city that is already struggling with soaring unemployment rates.
Now there is confirmation that at least one show, Fringe, will not be returning to New York City next season. The show’s pilot was filmed near Toronto but NYC’s tax incentives lured the production to New York where it is filmed today. Fox announced this week that if Fringe is renewed for a second season, they will move the entire production to Vancouver, where the filming costs are significantly lower.
If you want to help keep other productions, like Gossip Girl, Law and Order and Ugly Betty in NYC, please sign this petition today!
i can’t see how they would film gg anywhere else. but i would be so sad if they left. i went to see the fringe filming last week and got to meet some of the cast. they didn’t mention leaving the city, but it makes me sad that they are. also, vancouver must be the place to be. i heard they were filming parts of the new twilight saga movie, new moon, there. i may have to take a trip, an on location vacation.. anyway, i linked it to some message boards i post on, and i hope more people will sign the petition.
