The Top Five Warm(er) Filming Locations To Visit This Winter

atlantaskyline

So far this winter has been brutal for those of us in the northern half of the country and if you’re like us, you’re already planning your escape from the deep freeze.

Here are five cities where you can warm up (at least a little bit) and still see lots of movies and TV shows filming.

Atlanta

Average January Temp.: 51

Thanks to Georgia’s favorable tax rates Atlanta has become one of the country’s major filming hubs. The Vampire Diaries and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay are just two of the projects filming there this winter.

New Orleans

Average January Temp.: 62

There is always something major filming in New Orleans. Currently, American Horror Story: Coven and the independent movie 99 Homes, starring Andrew Garfield, are on break for the holidays but both will be back in production in NOLA in early January.

Los Angeles

Average January Temp.: 68

Of course Los Angeles has always been the most popular production city in the world. Visit tvtickets.com for studio audience tickets to dozens of L.A. studio-shot shows including The Big Bang Theory, Mom, and Two and a Half Men.

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Average January Temp.: 50

Albuqeruque has become famous for being Walter White’s hometown but just because Breaking Bad has finished filming that doesn’t mean the city’s film has left, too. The ABC series Killer Women has been filming around town and the Bad spin-off Better Call Saul is expected to shoot in Albuquerque in 2014.

Wilmington, NC

Average January Temp.: 56

Wilmington has been a hotbed of filming activity for nearly 20 years. In the past it has played Capeside in Dawson’s Creek and Tree Hill on One Tree Hill. Currently, the Fox series Sleepy Hollow is filming in town and the CBS series Under The Dome will begin shooting season two around Wilmington soon.
