Last week Ron Howard and Chris Hemsworth found themselves in the middle of a real-life weather emergency on the set of Howard’s upcoming movie, In the Heart of the Sea.
The movie’s cast and crew had to evacuate their filming location in the Canary Islands due to flash floods and mudslides.
“Rare heavy rain in La Gomera forced us to our small converted cover stage,” Howard Tweeted.
“Soon we were advised to wrap and evacuate. Pronto. ASAP,” he added. “W/out incident trucks moved to hi ground & all cast & crew waded to cars (calf deep) & made it out b-4 roads closed… Good luck that no cars or people were swept away or hit by tumbling rocks.”
Filming has since resumed on the movie, based on the true story of a whaling ship crew that was stranded at sea for 90 days in 1820.
This morning Howard Tweeted the above photo with the caption, “Heart of the Sea Marine team preps boats for dramatic character scene at sea.”
The beautiful Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, located just off the northwest coast of mainland Africa.
