Good news for MacGyver fans, looks likethe show is coming back, but not to your TV screen, to the movies. MacGyver is jut one in a long line of TV shows headed to the big screen. Two other cult hits, Arrested Development and Veronica Mars also have movies in the works. And after the success of Sex and the City, a sequel to that film is in the works as well.
For those too young to remember, MacGyver was a 1980s adventure series starring Richard Dean Anderson, (Stargate: Atlantis) as an incredibly resourceful secret agent for the Phoenix Foundation. McGyver could famously escape dangerous situations by engineering everyday items into weapons and tools.
The character is often spoofed on Saturday Night Live in the skit MacGruber, starring Will Forte. MacGruber also tries to make the necessary tools to escape dangerous situations but never seems succeeds.
The studio producing the film is optimistic it will be a hit.
“We think we’re a stick of chewing gum, a paper clip and an A-list writer away from a global franchise,” said New Line’s Richard Brener, who will oversee with Sam Brown and Walter Hamada.
