Last week the TV movie The Book of Negroes began filming in Nova Scotia, Canada.
The six-episode series based on Lawrence Hill’s novel of the same name will air on BET later this year. It stars Cuba Gooding Jr., Aunjanue Ellis, and Lou Gossett Jr.
Last week scenes were shot at the historic Fortress Louisbourg to represent New York in the late 1700s. This week they are filming in Shelburne and Halifax, N.S.
By the time they wrap, the movie will have filmed in a total of 14 cities on two continents, including Cape Town, South Africa.
The Book of Negroes follows Diallo, “who is kidnapped from West Africa at the dawn of the 19th century, survives a harrowing Atlantic crossing, is separated from her love and must navigate the American Revolution before returning to Sierra Leone, and ultimately securing her freedom in England.”
