Is Tina Fey’s “Taliban Shuffle” headed to New Mexico?

The ‘Taliban Shuffle is a 2011 memoir by international journalist Kim Barker, who shares her experiences reporting in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Tina Fey is producing and will star as Kim Barker in the film adaptation.

The book told of Barker’s arrival as a fish out of water in Kabul, filing stories about militants, being a woman in wartime Iraq and Pakistan, dealing with boredom interspersed with dashes of violence and the promiscuous war-correspondent culture.

Mentioned in the Albuquerque Journal, it was overheard a young woman was scouting New Mexico as a location for a movie. Filming in Morocco, the woman added, is considered a little too risky these days. New Mexico does have the desert, mountains and guns – so it would serve as an ideal substitute.

Robert Carlock, who worked with Fey as a writer and executive producer on 30 Rock, penned the script. Saturday Night Live’s Lorne Michaels also has been announced as a co-producer. As of yet, no release date has been announced.
