During 2014, the following five films best captured the locations where they were filmed, and made us want to go there, too!
Wild
In Wild, Reese Witherspoon stars as Cheryl Strayed, who took a 1,100-mile solo hike along the Pacific Crest Trail to deal with drug addiction, a failed marriage, and the loss of her mother. Most of the movie was filmed in Oregon, including a few spots along the Pacific Crest Trail. Other locations included Ashland Center and Crater Lake National Park.
Chef
Jon Favreau’s Chef follows a chef who loses his job in a hot Los Angeles restaurant and travels to Miami to pick up a food truck, which he drives back to Los Angeles, stopping in New Orleans and Austin, TX along the way. The movie highlights some of the best eats in each city, like Guero’s Taco Bar and Franklin’s BBQ in Austin, Versailles Restaurant in Miami, and Hatfield’s in L.A.
Tracks
This Australian film, starring Mia Wasikowska and Adam Driver, follows the real-life trek Robyn Davidson took from Alice Springs to the Indian Ocean, walking more than 1,700 miles across the Australian desert, with her dog and four camels. Fans of the film can take their own camel ride through the Australian desert with Camel Expeditions.
Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies
Every year a new Hobbit movie hits theaters, we’ve included it in our annual list because there are no other movies more intertwined with the country in which they were filmed than these. The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings films have fans all over the world planning trips to New Zealand. Hobbiton, the permanent set on a farm in Matamata complete with hobbit holes, gardens, bridge, the Mill and The Green Dragon, has become the highlight of these trips. Hobbiton is open to the public for tours, events, and even the occasional wedding. For more information, visit hobbitontours.com.
The Trip To Italy
In The Trip To Italy, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon take a road trip through Italy, from northern Piemonte to the Amalfi Coast. Between Al Pacino impersonations and vat-sized dishes of pasta, the comedians make stops at the Bay of Poets, Pompeii and the Napoli Catacombs.
I give Chef a vote! It is a fun movie and 5 stars food movie ^^
