What do ‘Citizen Kane’ and Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’ video have in common? Location, Location, Location

You might think Taylor Swift’s Blank Space video and Orson Welles’ classic movie Citizen Kane have nothing in common, but they do. Both were filmed at Oheka Castle on Long Island, NY.

In Citizen Kane, Oheka Castle was used for aerial shots of Xanadu, the fictional estate of Charles Kane. Oheka can be seen in the opening newsreel, other shots of Xanadu were stylized images of the estate, some inspired by a few famous southern California locales.

Oheka Castle is featured much more prominently in Taylor Swift’s video, which helped 1989 become the #1 album of 2014. The entire video was filmed on the castle’s grounds and showcases the home’s amazing entryway and gardens. The castle is the second-largest private residence in U.S., just behind the Biltmore Estate, with 127 rooms over 109,000 square feet.

Oheka Castle is most recognizable to Royal Pains fans as Boris’ estate. It is also where Kevin Jonas got married and where Blair actually went when she traveled to Tuscany on Gossip Girl.

Oheka Castle is open to visitors, but tours must be booked in advance.
