Even though it is one of the most famous and visited filming locations in Texas, the gas station featured in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has been in disrepair for years.
Luckily, one of the movie’s biggest fans has rescued the dilapidated building, with a little help from another horror film icon.
Last year, Roy Rose reached out to Ari Lehman – who was the first actor to play Jason Voorhees – and together they are not only restoring the gas station, located at 1073 SH 304, Bastrop, but making it a travel destination.
The two are planning on building Friday the 13th-themed cabins on the grounds, repairing the gas station, adding a Texas Chili Kitchen, and a stage for musical acts and burlesque shows.
“Having the unique honor of being the first Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th always brings me unexpected opportunities like this,” said Lehman. “Roy contacted me to tell me about his vision, to renovate the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre gas station and make it a horror destination, and I agreed it was a spectacular idea. Roy’s concept is to create a scary and fun destination that’s a safe place for families, couples or friends to get together and enjoy the location, get a cabin and have a blast!”
According to Rose, the project will be completed sometime this year.
