Film crews for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie will spend the first two weeks in May filming in Buffalo, NY, before the shoot moves to NYC.

Last week, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown announced the movie will film on the Kensington Expressway each night for two weeks from May 4th to the 17th.

The road will be closed between Route 198 and Downtown.

The city believes any inconvenience to drivers will be more than worth it as they expect TMNT 2 crews to spend $7 million locally.

The Buffalo Niagara Film Commission is also hoping the shoot will help attract more high profile films.  “Once you do a movie like this, you prove to the major studios that your city can handle a large scale production,” said Tim Clark, Buffalo Niagara Film Commission executive director.

According to Paramount, an “action and high-speed chase sequence will be filmed along the expressway. None of the movie’s principal actors will be on site, only technical and stunt personnel.”

The studio chose this stretch of highway for the shoot because they were looking for “an expressway where it looks like it is heading into a major city. Buffalo fit that bill.”
