‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ reshoots to take place in Ireland this month

Ireland’s Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has confirmed Lucasfilm will return to Skellig Michael to film part of the new Star Wars franchise.

Because the island is a UNESCO world heritage site and is considered “an area of exceptional sensitivity,” an ecologist and specialist staff from the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the National Monuments Service will be present for filming and will have the authority to stop or modify the shoot at any time “should concerns arise.”

The filming is thought to be reshoots for The Force Awakens which was filmed at the location last year but the weather was deemed “too good” for the scenes.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18, 2015.
