On Saturday, Oct 3rd, Chicago Fire star Joe Minoso will host The WhirlyCruz Cup, an epic Whirlyball battle between the casts of Chicago Fire and Chicago PD, taking place in, where else, Chicago.
So, what exactly is Whirlyball? It’s a cross between basketball, hockey and lacrosse in which all the players glide around in small vehicles similar to bumper cars, called Whirlybugs.
According to Minoso, he introduced his cast to the sport during the show’s first season and they are still playing together today. “They associate it with me, so why not take it a step further? I’m trying to build something to benefit (first responders),” he said. “There will be a game of ‘Fire’ vs. ‘P.D.’ in which one will stand tall with the cup at the end and (lord) it over the other cast.”
If you want to cheer on your favorite cast, it’s not too late to get tickets. General Admission tickets can still be purchased online through Saturday morning for $50 via Eventbrite.com. All proceeds will go to the 100 Club of Chicago, an organization that provides support to families of fallen first responders of Cook and Lake counties.
