One of the prerequisites for running an entertainment website is the ability to consume mass amounts of pop culture weekly. Luckily, this is one of my specialties. And, since I do spend most of my time watching countless hours of TV, reading the latest celeb bios, or sampling the week’s new albums, I thought I’d start sharing my favorites, for those of you don’t work in front of a TV all day.
Kether Donohue on You’re The Worst
I’ve always thought Kether Donohue’s Lindsay was the best part of You’re The Worst, and it looks like the show’s writers might agree with me based on this week’s more Lindsay-centric episode. Donohue’s portrayal of Lindsay makes the vapid, sometimes unhinged, character somehow seem completely lovable. This week’s best Lindsay quote, “Cash a check? Who am I, Lee Iacocca?”
Ryan Adams, 1989
Who would think Ryan Adams would be such a big fan of Taylor Swift? “[Her songs are] very vulnerable and brave and all the stuff I love about Husker Du and Bob Mould’s records,” he recently told Grantland. In an attempt to recharge after his divorce from fellow singer/actress Mandy Moore, Adams recorded Swift’s 1989 in its entirety. In a review of the record, Rolling Stone said, “[it] causes listeners to realize exactly what still so often defines pop-musical meaningfulness.” Being more of an Adams fan than a Swift fan, I didn’t know what I would think of it, but now I can’t stop listening to it.
Why Not Me by Mindy Kaling
Mindy lets her fans (though it feels more like we’re all her friends) in on all of her Hollywood secrets in latest book. She lets us all peek behind the curtain in the life of a TV star while giving us a few tips for achieving her glamorous look along the way. “The first thing you need to know is the hair on your head is worthless,” she writes. “The color, the length, the thickness, everything.”
American Horror Story: Hotel filming at the Murder House
This week Lady Gaga was spotted filming at the Murder House used in the first season of AHS. I can’t wait to see how this all ties together! Get the details about the shoot here.
The Affair at Paleyfest
The cast of The Affair made an appearance at Paleyfest NYC this week, including my fave, Joshua Jackson. I always know a show is good when it sticks with me, I even dream about The Affair after it airs on Sunday night, it’s that good. During this week’s Paleyfest NYC, the cast talked about the making of the series and what we can expect from season 2. Check out the entire panel on Yahoo now.
