This is the day Gilmore Girls thought they could only dream, but it’s happening, officially – Lorelai and Rory are returning to our televisions for four more gloriously fast-talking, caffeinated episodes.
According to TVLine, “Netflix has closed a deal with Warner Bros. for a limited-series revival of Gilmore Girls penned by series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and exec producer Daniel Palladino.”
It’s being reported all of the main cast, including Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop and Scott Patterson, are expected back for four 90-minute episodes/mini-movies.
The deal allows Sherman-Palladino — who left the original series prior to the final season due to a contract dispute, the chance to wrap things up the way she always imagined it.
During this year’s ATX Festival, Sherman-Palladino addressed the possibility of new episodes. “It would have to be the right everything — the right format, the right timing,” she said. “If it ever happened, I promise we’ll do it correctly.”
There’s still no word when the new Gilmore Girls episodes will begin filming, but we’d be surprised if they didn’t shoot on the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles. Stars Hollow’s town square, along with the rest of the show’s sets, were all located on the WB lot, where fans still visit them daily.
Since the news broke, we can’t stop wondering what will happen. Will Lorelei and Luke get married? Did Rory move back home to Stars Hollow? How will they handle Edward Herrmann’s passing? Will Melissa McCarthy return, or does she think she’s too famous for GG now? Whatever happens, we can’t wait to see it all!
