Vin Diesel already confirmed Furious 8 will be filmed in New York City but, that won’t be the movie’s only filming location.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, director F. Gary Gray has just completed a scouting trip to Cuba and is working on completing the necessary paperwork to film there. Here’s Universal’s official statement on the topic:
Universal Pictures is currently in the process seeking approval from the United States and Cuban governments to explore shooting a portion of the next installment of the Fast & Furious series in Cuba.
If the paperwork is approved, Furious 8 will be the first studio movie to shoot in Cuba since the U.S. placed an embargo on the nation back in the 1960s.
Conan O’Brien brought his late-night show to Cuba in March, making his the first show to film there in decades. Showtime’s House of Lies is also expected to feature episodes filmed on the island in its upcoming season.
