Tomorrow, the Off Broadway production of Lydia R. Diamond’s Smart People, starring Joshua Jackson, will close its short run at the 2econd State Theatre.
Here’s what Variety had to say about the critically-acclaimed production:
“Four attractive urban professionals cross paths, flirt, make love, wrestle with racial issues and talk their way in and out of romantic relationships without quite committing themselves. Sound familiar? Not the imaginative way playwright Lydia R. Diamond tells it in Smart People, a sexy, serious and very, very funny modern-day comedy of manners. Kenny Leon adroitly directs a super cast who play characters smart enough to carry on an intellectual argument on race in America — and human enough to look foolish when they lose the argument.”
Along with Jackson, Mahershala Ali, Tessa Thompson and Anne Son also star.
We checked out Smart People last week and found it to be quite compelling. But, as Dawson Creek fans, we were also pleasantly surprised when the theater allowed any interested audience members the opportunity to meet the cast in the lobby after the show. Though it is customary for a cast to sign Playbills outside after a show, rarely this practice done in such an organized (and warm!) and way.
There are still tickets availebale to the Matinee on Sunday, March 6. You can purchase tickets here.
