If you’re headed out to the Boston Bruins game at the TD Garden tonight, be on the lookout for Jake Gyllenhaal.
Gyllenhaal’s latest movie, Stronger, based on Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman’s book of the same name, began filming in Boston yesterday and is expected to shoot part of Bauman’s emotional turn as banner captain for the Bruins after tonight’s game.
Bruins season ticket holders have been asked to stay around for a couple of hours after the game while they film crowd shots for Stronger. Filmmakers want to capture of the feeling of the stands packed with authentic Bruins fans, not to mention they’re saving thousands of dollars not having to pay background actors.
Gyllenhaal will star as Bauman, who lost both his legs during the tragedy while waiting for his girlfriend at the finish line. The two men spent time together in Boston earlier this year, too. “We are extraordinarily excited to bring this inspiring story of love and the human spirit to the big screen,” Gyllenhaal said in a statement when the project was announced.
Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslan is set to play Bauman’s girlfriend in the film.
