After several false starts, the big screen adaptation of The Dark Tower has finally begun filming with director Nikolaj Arcel.
The Stephen King book series on which the film is based is mix of fantasy, science fiction and horror that follows Roland the last Gunslinger, who “is traveling southeast across Mid-World’s post-apocalyptic landscape, searching for the powerful but elusive magical edifice known as The Dark Tower.”
Idris Elba is playing Roland in the movie while Matthew McConaughey will play his nemesis, the mysterious Man in Black. Tom Taylor has also joined the project as Jake Chambers, the boy who joins Roland’s journey.
King confirmed filming was underway via Twitter last month.
THE DARK TOWER movie is filming; IT begins soon. Pretty cool.

In recent months, the NYC list has grown to include all of the TV shows that film in New York – whether they are in production or not – movies that have filmed in the city recently, are currently filming or will be filming soon, and all TV talk shows and reality programs set in NYC. So, there is no indication when the movie might actually shoot in NYC, or for how long filming will take place. But, we suggest everyone be on the lookout for those telltale No Parking signs soon!
Dark Tower is filming on Madison and 25th on Thursday, June 30th, per No Parking signs.
