Sand fire destroys famous filming location in California

Since last Friday, July 22, a massive fire has burned more than 35,000 acres of Southern California around Santa Clarita. More than 20,000 people had to be evacuated and a lot of properties were destroyed.

Among those properties destroyed were some famous locations for both movies and TV shows, such as Rancho Maria and Sable Ranch. It is a huge property near LA and often used for many filming projects due to its scenic backdrops and filming incentive programs for the city.

Rancho Maria and Sable Ranch have been operated on land owned by the hunt family since the 1960s when the property was primarily used as a location for photo shoots with models. Since that time, the business has grown drastically thanks to the family’s welcoming attitude toward film productions. Location manager Stephen Weissberger said “he’s used the ranches several times because they’re so film-friendly.” “They’ve become an extension of the production team,” he explained. “They never say ‘No.’ They always come up with innovative ways to make something work.”

It has been used many times, including for the following projects: 24 (2002), Bret Maverick (1981), Firefly (2002), V (1984), A Time To Remember (2003), An Occurrence at Black Canyon (2004), Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993), Star Party (2005), Sweet Alice (1983), The Outsider (1994), The Devil’s Rejects (2005), Hatchet (2006), Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992), Motel Hell (1980), Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990), and Supernatural (2005).

There has been no statement released by the Hunt family as of yet, but our thoughts are with them, and all of the families effected by this devastating fire.
