On Friday, Aug. 12, Nashville star Charles Esten and series creator Callie Khouri confirmed the show will make its CMT debut in December! Esten was playing at one of the show’s most popular filming locations, the Grand Ole Opry, on Friday night when he helped break the news that the show will return at the end of the year.
After an outcry from fans over the show’s cancellation on ABC, CMT announced in June that it had ordered a fifth season of the soapy drama. As part of the deal, Hulu will also stream each episode the day after it airs on the cable network.
With the exception of Will Chase (Luke) and Aubrey Peeples (Layla) the entire cast — including Esten, Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere — will be back for Season 5 with new showrunners Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick.
According to a recent posting by On Location Casting – the company that casts extras in the show – filming will begin in Nashville in September.
