As part of Wonder Woman’s 75th anniversary celebration, the U.N. will name Wonder Woman an honorary ambassador for the empowerment of women and girls at an event set to take place at their headquarters in New York City on Friday, Oct. 21.
Wonder Woman has remained one of DC Comics’ most iconic superheroes and a symbol of women’s strength and empowerment through her many incarnations.
Gal Gadot, who plays the current Wonder Woman in the DC Entertainment films, and Lynda Carter, who played what is arguably the most famous version of the superhero in the 1970s TV show, are both scheduled to attend the UN event, where they will meet for the first time. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson and other special guests are also scheduled to be there.
Lynda Carter, who can currently be seen in the CW’s Supergirl, recently revealed that she was approached by Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins to make an appearance in the upcoming movie but, unfortunately, scheduling conflicts forced her to decline.
