Even though the movie isn’t scheduled to hit theaters until May 23, 2019, several industry publications, including MeEntertainmentWorld.com, are reporting Star Wars: Episode IX will being production in April 2017.
As director Rian Johnson first announced, production wrapped on Star Wars: Episode VIII – which debuts on Dec. 15, 2017 – back in July, after just five months of filming in England, Ireland and Croatia. Episode VIII will pick up where The Force Awakens left off, with Rey (Daisy Ridley) standing before Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), preparing for her Jedi training.
There is little known about the plot of Episode IX, but it has been revealed that the movie will be filmed in 65mm format, a first for the new trilogy. According to Cinema Blend, J.J. Abrams filmed The Force Awakens in 35mm film and Rian Johnson followed suit and filmed Episode VIII in 35mm as well. But, Collin Trevorrow is breaking ranks and going with 65mm. Kodak has revealed that they have upgraded their processing facility in the UK to handle 65mm film and one of the projects listed for the film is Star Wars Episode IX.
Production for Episode IX will be based at Pinewood Studios, Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire, England, UK.
