‘The Batman’ begins filming in April

Ben Affleck gave Batman fans an early Christmas this week when he confirmed The Batman will begin filming in early 2017.

“We’re on the right track with that and everything is coming together,” Affleck told Variety, indicating filming will begin in the spring. “We’re still finishing up a script. I’m very excited.”

We’ve also heard that the “spring” start date will be, more specifically, in mid-April.

And, as he’s about the put on his director’s hat once more for The Batman, Affleck had nothing but praise for the directors who came before him.

“I respect all of those movies. Christopher Nolan did an incredible job, Christian Bale did an incredible job, Tim Burton did an incredible job,” said Affleck. “At a certain point you have to look forward and try to believe in your own vision for it and not be looking over your shoulder the whole time. I go into that movie with a tremendous amount of respect for the people who came before me.”

Now, the bigger question will be, where will The Batman be filmed? It’s been rumored the movie might return to Detroit, though the state’s dwindling tax incentives might make that a bit more difficult. We’ve also heard it could be filmed almost entirely in the U.K., where Wonder Woman was shot earlier this year or, Toronto – the primary location for Suicide Squad – could be another possibility. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
