‘Castle Rock’ to be filmed in Massachusetts

Fans of Stephen King’s work might be familiar with Castle Rock, Maine, a fictional town in which many of his novels and short stories are set. Hulu’s new project with producer J.J. Abrams is precisely a show entitled “Castle Rock” and, as GQ reported, will be an anthology show, with characters and plots from some of King’s most famous books.

The idea, therefore, is to create a new storyline, with no particular book serving as source-material to be adapted.

Although there is still no confirmed release date, production has started and the location selected is Devens, Massachusetts, at New England Studios, as well as the surrounding areas. Filming should start in August and continue until January, 2018.

The show has been commissioned for 10 episodes and the confirmed cast includes André Holland (“Moonlight”) and Melanie Lynsey (“Two and a Half Men”, “Togetherness”). Holland will play Henry, a death row attorney, while Lynsey’s character will be Molly Strand, a woman with a rare medical condition.

It was developed for television by “Manhattan” creator Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason.

This will be the second collaboration among Hulu, King, and J.J. Abrams, following “11.22.63”, based on King’s same-named novel.

A teaser has already been released, as you can see below:

Here’s the synopsis, provided by Dread Central:

A psychological horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, “Castle Rock” combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. “Castle Rock” is an original suspense/thriller — a reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.
