Norway has been chosen as film locations frequently, thanks to its beautiful landscapes. Past movies shot in the region include You Only Live Twice and Die Another Day, from the James Bond franchise, and one more installment could be added to that list.
The next James Bond film, set to be released early 2020, hasn’t started filming yet but there are enough rumors to leave fans interested.
The most recent one involves the possibility of Norway being selected as one of the locations for the upcoming Bond 25 (working title). According to multiple reports, the Norwegian Film Institute has offered a record NOK 47m ($5.5m USD) in rebates if the production chooses to shoot some or all of the film in that country.
Stine Helgeland, NFI Executive Director, Promotion & International Relations, stated that they are “pleased that filming of the film with the preliminary title B25 is considering being shot in Norway”.
This, however, does not mean that the deal is done, nor that the production will actually receive cash for that. Instead the production would receive a 25% refund on approved expenses incurred in the country up to that figure.
Even if production goes ahead in Norway it is not clear if the location would double for some other, or if Norway itself is integral to the plot.
Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout, for example, filmed a key fight scene on the Preikestolen, or Pulpit Rock, doubling the location for a story setting in Kashmir. Other movies that used Norway as a location include Downsizing (2017), Ex Machina (2015), Captain America: First Avenger (2011), Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows (2011), and Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince (2009).
In case these movies make you want to visit Norway, let’s also remember that it is the inspiration for the hit animated film Frozen. Thanks to its huge success, Disney’s Cruise Line “Magic” has a Frozen themed cruise to Norway and Adventures by Disney has a specific itinerary dedicated to visiting villages that inspired the movie, so there are plenty of ways to explore that country!
