The 22nd Annual Virginia Film Festival will take place at different venues in Charlottesville and will run from November 5th through the 8th. The theme of this year’s festival will be “Funny Business” and it will include screenings of almost 80 films and talks with more than 100 guests who will use the opportunity to share their views on a variety of different topics related to the movie industry.
Those hoping to catch a glimpse of a celebrity will be happy to hear that the special guests list will include Actors Annette Bening, Matthew Broderick and Cherry Jones, as well as Academy Award-Winning Director Norman Jewison, Legendary Cult Filmmaker and Author John Waters and Academy Award and Emmy Award-Winning Writer and Director Alan Ball.

Some interesting movies you might want to check out if you decide to go are Mother and Child, a heartwarming drama about the intersecting lives of a 50-year-old woman, the daughter she gave up for adoption and an African-American woman looking to adopt a baby. The film is produced by Julie Lynn and features an all-star cast including Annette Benning, Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington, Jimmy Smits and Samuel L. Jackson. The movie will be screened on Saturday at 7:30PM at The Paramount Theater.
Furthermore, during the Closing Night event, Josh Goldin and producer Glenn Williamson will present their new film Wonderful World. They will be joined by Matthew Broderick who will share his thoughts on the movie. Wonderful World tells the story of Ben Singer, a failed children’s folk singer and halfhearted weekend dad with a serious pessimism problem. The screening will take place at Culbreth Theatre on Sunday evening at 5:30PM.
Those interested in attending any special events or parties, will be have plenty of opportunities to do so. On the evening of November 5th there is the Opening Night Gala. The event will include drinks, light buffet refreshments and musical entertainment, plus a great opportunity to take in the opening night excitement and mingle with other guests. Tickets for the event are $75 per person. On the closing night, there will be another chance to hit the dance floor as the Virginia Film Festival hosts the It’s a Wrap…Party! The party will take place on November 7th and tickets cost $45.
