‘Star Trek’ Sequel Filming in 2011

During the Monday premiere of “Dinner for Schmucks”, Bruce Greenwood, who played the character, ‘Captain Christopher Pike’ in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek”, revealed that the follow-up will kick off principal photography in 2011.

“I just know that the plan is to film it in January, more than that, I don’t know”.

However, Greenwood wouldn’t commit to whether or not he was actually in the film. When asked, all he would offer was: “I’m hustling for it…we’ll see…”

Back in April, Zoë Saldaña also hinted that the production for the upcoming Sci-Fi could start as early as 2011. She claimed, “I do think we are going into pre-production this fall, to start shooting early next year.” But Producer Bryan Burk has said that filming would actually start late spring or early summer.

“Star Trek 2” is set for a June 29th, 2012 release date. John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldaña, Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin are all expected to return for the movie.

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who wrote the first “Star Trek”, have again written the script for the sequel.

The first Star Trek was filmed around various California locations. No word yet on where the sequel will be filmed.
