Updated: Will Ben Affleck and Matt Damon reunite in Detroit for ‘Hit Somebody’?

Kevin Smith spoke to MTV about his upcoming movie, Hit Somebody,  in a live chat this week where he revealed, among other things, that he wanted to bring back everyone who has appeared in his past films- including Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

Smith explained that the cast of the hockey flick, which will be the last movie he makes,  will consist of much of the cast of his latest movie Red State as well as many of the regulars who have appeared in his other films.

”They’re all coming back,” Smith said of those who have appeared in his past films. “It’s like The Muppet Movie. you’ve got your core cast, and then a zillion cameos… It’s going to sum everything up. We’ll have a team in Boston, and who do you think I’m going to call? Both of those dudes.”

Though Smith has described the movie as a love letter to Canada and to hockey, it is (for now) expected to be shot, at least in part, in Detroit. So does this mean we can expect to see Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in Michigan this summer when Hit Somebody begins shooting? Only time will tell.

Even if Ben and Matt don’t make a cameo  in the movie, it still sounds pretty cool. Smith has said it spans the ’50s to the ’80s, and is set in a hockey league similar to the NHL. Apparently, according to Smith, Hit Somebody will “sum everything up” and be “an analogous tale to my time in film,” and is about a guy “who loves hockey with all his heart, but is no damn good at it. Then he gets his shot.”

Update: Kevin Smith confirmed his plans to shoot in Detroit on WRIF’s Drew and Mike. He told them, “Detroit is the ideal location to shoot this saccharine-sweet anti-Slap Shot because the city hasn’t changed much since 1980.” It looks like the possibility of Matt and Ben spending some time in Detroit this summer may become a reality!
