Updated: Add New York to the long list of rumored locations for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

A couple of days ago I saw this report that claimed, The Dark Knight Rises crew is “doing a plate shot in a helicopter over New York City this week, apparently, Chris Nolan wants to get the city with snow on the ground” but didn’t look much further because I assumed it was another in the long line of false rumors that have been circulating about the film.

But now I’m starting to believe the hype. Over the course of the past day or so I have received three different tips about Dark Knight Rises crews being in New York from sources that have proven to be reliable in the past. For instance, one of our contributors Brando reported:

This is just a rumor but apparently a Second Unit is currently filming exterior shots for Chris Nolan’s future sequel to The Dark Knight. The fake titles used to cover this movie are Magnus Rex and Fox Hills Green. Apparently, the movie will shoot some scenes in New York in late-May. Nolan was in NYC last week to discuss possible locations with his photography manager.

The other tips I received were similar and also stressed that these were just rumors, so at this point I’m leaving the possibility of the movie shooting in NYC as just that, a rumor. Though it would be interesting to see Nolan move the franchise from Chicago to New York…

In other Batman 3 filming location news, a recent report from a Hungarian newspaper claims that filming will definitely take place in Bucharest (which Nolan scouted as a location a few months ago). The story (which was translated by our friends at The Daily Blam) says, “We have learned that the crew of The Dark Knight Rises comes to our country for a few weeks in spring, [for] both outdoor and studio scenes. We do not know exactly how many [cast members] come to us, but Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway will definitely have scenes.”

What do you think of NYC as a possible location for the movie? Would you be excited?

Update: According to Batman-On-Film’s original source, “There’s going to be something big shot at the New York Stock Exchange, probably in October. Word has it that principal photography will start in India.” India now too? I’m back to being skeptical of this whole report.

Update #2: According to the NYC Mayor’s Office, the movie will be shooting in NYC through December under the working title Magnus Rex. More info here.

  1. No, but the snow covered angle is very interesting. It would look pretty cool to show a snowy Gotham, perhaps fitting in with the story somehow…
