According to MLive, one of the Michigan Film Industry’s greatest allies, 50 Cent, is taking his next movie, Freelancers, to New Orleans, LA.
The movie, which 50 Cent is producing and starring in, was expected to begin filming in Grand Rapids on March 28th, but the film’s application for tax credits has been on hold with the Michigan Film Office since Gov. Rick Snyder’s new budget proposal recommended capping the state’s tax incentive at $25 million. This would be significantly less than the the current rebate for film productions in the state which is about 40 to 42 percent, the highest in the country.
50 Cent and his producing partner, Randall Emmett, have shot several films in Grand Rapids in the last few years and at one point 50 was even looking for a home in the area. But, without the guarantee of the state’s tax credit, it looks like they chose to take their business elsewhere.
Stay tuned, we’re hoping to have more details on this one in the next few days.
Update: The movie is definitely going to be shot in Louisiana. The Louisiana Casting Company Glorioso Casting has recently announced they will be handling extras casting.
