Tribeca Film Festival announces competition line up for 2011

The 2011 Tribeca Film Festival announced several selections from its competition program, including World Narrative, World Documentary, and Viewpoints, this week.

Nearly half of the fest’s 98 feature-length films and 61 shorts were revealed.

The World Narrative and Documentary competitions each include12 films competing for prizes totaling more than $100,000, as well as donated artwork from Robert De Niro Sr., the father of Robert DeNiro, who is also the festival’s co-founder.

The films in the World Narrative Feature category include the following:

Angels Crest, directed by Gaby Dellal and starring Jeremy Piven

Jesus Henry Christ, directed/written by Dennis Lee, a world premiere starring Toni Collette and Michael Sheen

The Last Rites of Joe May, directed and written by Joe Maggio (USA), world premiere which was shot in Chicago last year

The new section, Viewpoints, focuses on international independent cinema, including  Donor Unknown, about a grown up “test tube” baby and Gnarr, about an Icelandic comedian who launches his own political party, The Best Party.

The remainder of the schedule will be announced March 14.
