Last week, during SXSW, we spoke to two staffer from the Texas Film Commission who told us that though they didn’t have any major film projects lined-up for the state, they were excited that two buzzed about TV pilots were getting ready to shoot in Texas.
The TNT reboot of the 1980’s soap Dallas is already in pre-production in Dallas, TX and is expected to start shooting in the city within a few weeks.
The Dallas Film Commission released a statement that reads in part:
Warner Horizon Television has selected Dallas as the location for the pilot of TNT’s new incarnation of the popular television drama Dallas. Executive producer Cynthia Cidre, who wrote The Mambo Kings and executive produced the television series Cane, wrote the pilot based on characters created by David Jacobs. Michael M. Robin (The Closer, Rizzoli & Isles, Nip/Tuck) who also executive produces will direct.
When we spoke, the Texas Film Commission was quick to point out that often series are not filmed in the same location where the pilot is shot, meaning if the show is picked up by TNT, there is no guarantee it will be continue to be shot in Dallas.
This week a second pilot, tentatively titled Good Christian Bitches, for ABC also began shooting in Dallas. GCB, based on the best-selling book, is about a divorced mother of two who moves back to the Park Cities. The cast includes Annie Potts, Kristin Chenoweth, Jennifer Aspen, and Leslie Bibb.
