As we’ve previously mentioned, after Piranha 3-D was shot in Lake Havasu in 2009, the surrounding community was angered because they were afraid people would believe there were piranhas in the lake, which would obviously deter tourists.
So, when they decided to make a sequel to the movie, Lake Havasu wasn’t exactly going to welcome them back with open arms. That’s when producers decided to shoot the second movie in New Orleans, but apparently that didn’t work out either.
According to the Wilmington Film Commission the movie, which is tentatively titled Piranha 3DD, will be shot in Wilmington, NC in May.
Piranha 3DD will be directed by John Gulager and will focus on a group of piranhas that are making their way into swimming pools, pipes, and plumbing at a fictional waterpark named Wilderness Waters. There have been a number of recent rumors about the movie making the rounds online, including a starring role for Tara Reid and the possibility of a later start date due to rewrites. The movie is expected in theaters in Nov. 2012.
