The Michigan Film Office announced last week that they approved $561,204 in tax incentives for the feature film The Citizen, the fifth project approved under new guidelines.
Michigan filmmaker Sam Kadi will direct the movie about a Lebanese immigrant on his journey to becoming an American citizen. The movie will begin shooting around May 31st in Detroit.
“As we work to attract the best projects to the state, it is especially rewarding when the filmmakers driving those projects are located right here in Michigan,” Carrie Jones, director of the film office, said in a statement.
Approval of The Citizen only leaves $14.4 million in proposed cash rebates for about 40 pending applications.
“It’s a journey that I am proud to actually display and actually show people what it takes to capture the American dream, where determination can take you,” said Kadi about the movie. “I think it’s a very uplifting, very patriotic story.”
The movie will be looking for 100 – 300 extras over the 5 week shoot. You can find more information at MichiganActing.com.
